What We Treat Car Accidents Degenerative Disc Disease Facet Syndrome Failed Back Surgery Herniated and Bulging Disc Other Lower Back Pain Numb & Tingling Legs & Feet Sciatica Spinal Stenosis The DRS Protocol Dr. Kielurs Blog FAQs Contact Directions and Parking Information Navigation Menu Home Sciatica Sciatica Sciatica refers to pain felt along the length of the sciatic nerve. The pain is usually felt in the buttocks, where it radiates down the leg. If you suddenly start feeling pain in your lower back or hip that radiates to the back of your thigh and into your leg, you may have a protruding (herniated) disc in your spinal column that is pressing on the roots of the sciatic nerve. This condition is known as sciatica. Quite often, leg pain or foot pain does not mean that there is a problem with the leg or foot, but rather that there is a problem in the lower back, causing pain and possibly other symptoms to radiate, or be referred to, the leg or the foot. An important thing to understand is that sciatica is a symptom of a problem of something compressing or irritating the nerve roots that comprise the sciatic nerve rather than a medical diagnosis or medical disorder in and of itself. This is an important distinction because it is the underlying diagnosis (vs. the symptoms of sciatica) that often needs to be treated in order to relieve sciatic nerve pain. What We Treat Car Accidents Degenerative Disc Disease Facet Syndrome Failed Back Surgery Herniated and Bulging Disc Other Lower Back Pain Numb & Tingling Legs & Feet Sciatica Spinal Stenosis The DRS Protocol Dr. Kielurs Blog FAQs Contact Directions and Parking Information Navigation Menu Home Treatment With The DRS Protocol Treatment With The DRS Protocol What is the DRS Protocol ? The DRS Protocol is a comprehensive combination of treatments, which include axial/spinal decompression, and multiple therapies. DRS; which stands for Decompression, Reduction and Stabilization, is a patient centered healthcare that utilizes chiropractic best practices. DRS Protocol has been proven most effective for chronic disc conditions including degenerative disc disease, herniated disc(s), numbness and tingling of the legs/feet, sciatica, posterior facet syndrome, spinal stenosis and failed back surgeries. Dr. Kielur and the Mass Ave Chiropractic team customize treatments to fit each patients needs, as each patients health and condition is unique. How Does DRS Work? The DRS treatment applies an axial or distractive force to the injured disc levels during which intradiscal pressure is dropped from a positive to a negative. This negative pressure promotes the diffusion, or intake, of water, oxygen, and nutrients into the vertebral disc area, thereby rehydrating the degenerated disc. Repeated pressure differential promotes retraction of a herniated nucleus pulposus (the elastic core of the intervertebral disc). In other words, the DRS treatment reduces pressure inside of the disc. In laymans terms, this method reduces the painful herniation and pain from other disc-related degenerative conditions. The pressure reduction results in increased blood flow to the injured area, reduction of pain, increased mobility, and tissue repair. Research studies conclude that for patients with appropriate back pain conditions, DRS is a front-line, premier treatment.
