He attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He then attended and graduated from the University South Dakota School of Law in 1989. He was licensed and admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of South Dakota in October 1989. Mr. Walter worked for the Minnehaha County Public Defenders Office in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from 1989 to 1996. In 1996 he was admitted to practice in the South Dakota U. S. District Court. He has tried many misdemeanor and felony cases. He held the record with the Minnehaha County Public Defender's office for the most jury trial wins until 2006. Mr. Walter won every misdemeanor case he tried for 14 years.
