In the home, the mother is truly the central figure and all plans and activities revolve around her. She is comfortable in the familiar surroundings of her home having things around her that are important to her and from which she may draw strength. She is usually less inhibited at home, and therefore, does not use up the limited energy she has to cope with labor on negotiating the hospital system. The mother is more free to express herself spiritually and culturally in the home setting. Birthing at home is not an action against the medical establishment, but provides for the family a way to have more control of the birth experience. Home birth moms are screened stringently to assure that everything is normal. Home birth is only for healthy women experiencing a normal pregnancy.
