The significance of an African American Flag

Also known as the Garvey Flag, the African American symbolizes African-American and African pride and unity. It is also popularly used as a sign of Black liberation. The flag got its name after Marcus Garvey but in the beginning the flag did not have a name and was simply called a Red-Black-green flag. The colors in the flag represent different things - While green stands for the natural resources of the country of the Black - Africa, black color in the flag represents the Black race. Other names given to the flag include the African National Flag, the New African Liberation Flag, the Black Nationalist Flag, the African-American Flag and the Universal African flag.
